Air fryers are just small, powerful convection ovens. The circulating hot air cooks food faster and more efficiently than a standard oven. That means every oven recipe you already know can be adapted with a simple formula.
Reduce the temperature by 25°F and cut the cooking time by about 20%. So a recipe that calls for 400°F for 20 minutes becomes 375°F for 16 minutes. Check a few minutes early the first time — every air fryer is a little different. After one or two tries, you'll have it dialed in.
This formula works for 90% of recipes. The exceptions are baked goods — those need more testing.
Air fryers cook smaller quantities at a time, so batch cooking may take longer overall.
If the recipe calls for covering with foil in the oven, you can skip that in the air fryer.
Use an instant-read thermometer to verify doneness, especially the first time.
