Also known as egg in a basket, this simple breakfast toasts the bread and fries an egg, all in one shot. Air frying delivers a perfectly cooked egg and golden-brown toast in minutes. This page has the full recipe and air frying directions.

  • 2 slices thick-cut bread (white, sourdough, or brioche)
  • 1 tablespoon butter, softened
  • 2 eggs
  • Salt and pepper

  1. 01Use a biscuit cutter, cookie cutter, or the rim of a drinking glass to cut a 2 to 3 inch hole in the center of each bread slice. Save the cutout rounds for toasting alongside.
  2. 02Butter both sides of each bread slice, including the cutout rounds.
  3. 03Place the buttered bread in the air fryer basket.
  4. 04Crack one egg into each hole. Go slowly so the yolk doesn't break.
  5. 05Season the egg with salt and pepper.
  6. 06Place the cutout rounds next to the bread slices (they'll toast while the eggs cook).
  7. 07Ready for the air fryer.
Also called egg in a basket, egg in a frame, or a one-eyed jack depending on where you grew up. The bread toasts while the egg cooks inside it. If you like a runny yolk, check early. If you like it set, give it an extra minute. The cutout rounds are for dipping into the yolk.
