  1. 01Cut the top off each apple. Use a melon baller or spoon to scoop out the core and seeds, creating a well about 1.5 inches wide. Don't go all the way through the bottom.
  2. 02Mix the oats, brown sugar, butter pieces, nuts, cinnamon, nutmeg, salt, and dried fruit. The butter should stay in small chunks, not melted in. It melts during cooking and creates a crumble texture.
  3. 03Pack the filling into each apple well, mounding slightly on top.
  4. 04Ready for the air fryer.
  5. 05Serve with a scoop of vanilla ice cream or a drizzle of caramel sauce.
Firm apples only. A soft Fuji or Red Delicious collapses into mush during the long cook time. Honeycrisp holds its shape while getting tender. Granny Smith stays firm and adds tartness that balances the sweet filling. If the apples are large, trim a thin slice off the bottom so they sit flat in the basket without tipping.
